Qantas Jet Makes Emergency Landing In The Philippines

It was a Hongkong-Melbourne bound Qantas jet flight but because of a hole (2.5 to three meters in diameter) in the fuselage the jet had to make an emergency landing in Manila, Philippines on Friday at 11:15 a.m.

Aside from reports of some passengers vomiting and ears popping, everyone was safe and fine. The hole was checked by the engineers. According to Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon the Australian Transportation Safety Bureau and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority have already been notified and plans to investigate.

This make one wonder if airlind maintance does Non Destructve Inspections of all parts of the airplanes as they age.
When I was in the USAF we were doing the NDI on the landing gears of our B-52 bombers because ther were concerns that the gear would fail.each plane to a day each to inspect. first the plane had to be jacked up to geat the weight of the plane off the gear, then the gear had to de-flated (just like a tire) then you could uninstall the gear one at a time. than the gear is magnetically inspected for cracks. if they were there the gear was replaced.
I guess thatis what is needed before ageing aircraft fly.
Oh I forgot that costs extra money and Profits do come first. Mike G. said that.
hugs and God's blessings.
