A little introduction- papaya is a common fruit in the Philippines. A ripe papaya can be eaten without the skin or seeds. The unripe papaya can be eaten cooked, usually in salads, curries, or stews. I'm sorry about my ignorance but I just learned that the seeds are edible but it has a sharp, spicy taste. When dried and grounded it can be used as a substitute for black pepper.
Papaya also has ethnomedical uses. The ripe fruit can treat ringworms while the unripe fruit can treat high blood pressure. The seeds are anti-inflammatory, anthelmintic, and analgesic, and they are used to treat stomachache and fungal infections. The leaves are used as a heart tonic, analgesic, and to treat stomachache. The roots are used as an analgesic.
Why the newest craze is called the "Papaya Dance", I have no clue. All I know is it doesn't require any dance skill at all. As long as you can shake your hips and shuffle your arms, you're good to go. Even the US Ambassador was smitten by this dance craze. Please click here to watch the video.
